COMPETITION NEWS
If you have any leads or questions about competitions, please post in the General Forum.

Competitions really are a great way of gaining experience taking a wide range of subjects and now that entries can be made online there's none of the hassle we used to have when you had to mail prints or slides for submission.

Check out the news feed across the page or click here to see what is currently running.

CURRENT ASSIGNMENT

Open: Any Picture, Any Subject

Please upload your entries (Max 3 files, less than 750k at 72 dpi) via the File Sharing application by 12.00 on Wednesday January 7th.  In response to several requests, we will have two folders for your submissions: one for pictures you'd like the meeting to critique and one for just for sharing although you might consider putting the just for sharing ones in your gallery and posting an invitation on the forum for people to check them out!

Welcome to the Chiang Mai Photography Group. We meet every other Wednesday at 7.00pm in Tuskers Bar (see the calendar below) and all those with an interest in photography, be it film or digital are warmly invited.

The Chiang Mai Photographic Group aims to further all aspects of the picture taking abilities of its members through the sharing of skills and mutual support in an informal, inclusive and enjoyable atmosphere. (32x32ThaiFlag.gif ภาษาไทย)

CMPG is run solely for the benefit of its members and a fee of 40bht per person is collected at each meeting to help defray expenses. Meetings last two hours after which we encourage you to stay for a while and chat with other members over a drink in the bar. We can't cover everything in the formal bit and this is a good time to explore interests you share with other photographers.

January Astronomy
Our Special Guest on Jan 14th

Khun Saran, owner of Digital Photo Studio has seen more total solar eclipses than anyone in Asia and is currently involved in the installation of a new reflector telescope in the observatory on Doi Inthanon.  He's kindly offered to take an evening off to come and give us a talk about astronomical photography which will include at one end of the scale things like stacking and mosaicing to achieve high resolution composites through to how to expose a shot of the moon decently!  Just to give you an idea of how good he is, his shot of the Smile in the Sky last month shows four of Jupiter's moons (although he did have the advantage of taking it from the top of Doi Inthanon)!

SmilemoonLR.jpg

Don't bother looking for moons on this picture - It's Wyndham's effort taken from a light polluted street in Nong Hoi!

NB:  The text of the "Moving Forward" article summarising the outcome of the Dec 17th meeting can now be found here
