Lanna Photo Club Photo Exhibition

Date: 1st - 31st August

Chiang Mai City Arts & Cultural Center
053 217 793, 053 219 833

Come celebrate their 2 year anniversary celebration. The opening will be held on 3rd August at 10 a.m.

The exhibition is at Three Kings and I'm going to try to get to see it today. Lanna PC has some good photographers and it will be interesting to see what they can do.

Held in the City Arts Centre which is in the Three Kings building (no need to pay since you walk through the museum) this exhibition is in a large room on the second floor. You can park your car in the official car park it seems, well we did.

There are about 50 prints which are presented in mounts (but not framed) and displayed on screens of the kind but not the condition that I would like to find for our show. Lanna members are fairly evenly split along Nikon/Canon lines with a few maverick Pentax, Fuji and a real film loading EOS3 thrown in for good measure.

The standard of printing was acceptable and has been done on a Canon Pixima inkjet on Canon glossy paper. Canon was a sponsor of the show along with City Life (who just agreed to sponsor ours, by the way) and Photo-Bug.

Subjects were varied but my impression was that they could have cut back on the landscapes and sunsets a bit. A couple of portraits stood out "Meo Sexy" by Ningi was an attention grabber and surprisingly sharp for 3oth of a second if the caption is accurate. There were some excellent fireworks shots which to my mind showed the value of being nearer the action (I tried to do some from a rooftop last year) despite the personal danger involved. Interestingly, only a couple of monks featured and only a single Loy Krathong picture were included but maybe they overdid it last year and banned them this time round!

Best picture in my opinion was taken by a person known as TOA - they all use their website names by the way so if you're still known on here as ASFDTJYTYLIU, you'd better change it fast - using a FILM CAMERA!!! His shot of bathers in the moat and climbing the old city wall was outstanding - taken with a Canon EOS3 and Fuji Provia 100F it was a good subject with interaction between the people, great colours and, despite being scanned at some point to be output on the inkjet, nice and sharp too.

Lastly, LPC produced a really excellent catalogue featuring all the pictures plus credits and sponsors ads. The exhibition must have taken a lot of work to mount so try to get to see it before it closes.
